Samuel did have two brothers George and Joseph who were still in Ulster County area when Samuel's family migrated. George Winslow married Hannah Flewwelling. Moses Winslow was born about 1800 and was baptized at the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Newburgh, along with several other Winslows. Moses married an Elizabeth in Ulster County and had nine children. The family is intact in 1840 but by 1859 the wife and children are in Callicoon, Sullivan County and dad is in Shandaken- with a young woman and baby.
Moses' children scattered across the country. My brother in law is related to Elijah Winslow, who settled in Wisconsin. Elijah's brother Samuel went to Nebraska and pioneered there.
Who is Moses' father?Jen Lyonshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11509543576777046759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30037974.post-37107205481597873282009-01-23T05:36:00.000+01:002009-01-23T05:36:00.000+01:00Yes, I am very interested in the notes about the S...Yes, I am very interested in the notes about the Stephen Longwell branch of the family tree. I came across a photo a while back posted on a site about the time my power went out and I haven't been able to find it back. It was of Mary Moore, sister to James, John and Rachel, taken at the family home in Ireland when one of the family was visiting. She was probably in her sixties or so. Was this maybe posted on your site. Also if you come across any photos of John or his first wife Jeannie Bell Montgomery I would be ever so grateful. A Noble from the Village of Tannenberg went hunting for Vultures ( Geier or Geyer in old spelling). After he made his way to the nesting place he tied up his horse on the foot of a hill which was the Geyersberg, now known as what is left as the Binge. His horse was scraping the ground with its hoof and exposed silver in the rocks below. From there on the mining started and people started to settle and started to build. The name Geyer as you can see, came from the reason that this noble went out to hunt, namely vulture or hawk. The coat of arms of Geyer also shows those three birds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wappen_Geyer.pngberzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01526300212842201155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30037974.post-285215570951940242008-09-12T02:35:00.000+02:002008-09-12T02:35:00.000+02:00Wow! Your mother is my sister's close friend. She hasn't heard from your mother for several years. My husband and me went to Los Angeles for study in 1976 and stay with her, your dad, your grandparents for a few nights. Your mother taught me how to clean the bathroom. She came with you to visit me some time. That time you were so cute like a doll.
I told my son to search you mom's name but couldn't found until 2 days ago I tried to search again and found and 100% sure when I read your blog. Just before James passed away, I was in contact with him about my direct ancestor Stephen Longwell - and had given him several lines from my family to add to his collection. We were anxiously awaiting the second volume when I learned that James had passed on.
We were able to contact his daughter and his son through Rootsweb "LONGWELL" mailing list, but the person in charge of that list (not related to Stephen) began collecting all Longwell lines given to him, regardless if it was accurate, then selling the family group sheets. About that time, John Longwell quit responding to mails so I think he probably didn't want any part of what appeared to be a business operation.
Since then, all of us 'cousins' have long wondered what became of the Stephen Longwell notes....and to my surprise, I found your blog today! Now we know!!!! How fantastic!
Please let me know if you have converted these files to a CD - I know if several people who would LOVE to purchase a copy. My Email address is boatkitten AT aol DOT com . I do think we have corresponded before - either on the Winslow or Woolsey or Longwell line.
I have documents that show Stephen did get a pension for Rev War Service - just like his brother David. But I also had a lot of trouble getting anyone to acknowledge this in CT.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Valerie (nee Longwell)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30037974.post-46952049012484331012007-11-29T19:51:00.000+01:002007-11-29T19:51:00.000+01:00Hi Barbara,You're right, it was Oliver Twist by Ch...Hi Barbara,

You're right, it was Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.
